SANBS ON DRIVE TO AVERT SPREAD OF ZIKA VIRUS IN MZANSI
The South African National Blood Service has adjusted its donor criteria, in an effort to proactively ensure that no blood recipient will be exposed to the Zika virus. Earlier this month, the World Health Organization declared a global emergency, over the explosive spread of the virus, which has been linked to birth defects in Latin America. The WHO said the mosquito-borne virus poses a public health threat, to other parts of the world as it causes brain defects and abnormally small heads in new born babies.
